Cancun, Q.R. — Firemen were called to the scene of a massive blaze early Sunday morning in a west Cancun suburb. City firefighters spent hours at the scene where a large fire was found spreading in a vehicle impound lot.

According to the Cancun Fire Department, approximately 70 vehicles were destroyed in the early morning fire. The fire happened inside a private impound lot along the highway west of Cancun that leads to Merida.
Due to the nature of the fire, military personnel were sent in to help control and contain the blaze. Cancun firemen reported successfully bringing the fire under control with no injuries reported.
An official cause for the fire is still under investigation.
In a statement, Bomberos Cancun said “during the early hours of Sunday morning, the Cancún Fire Department responded to a fire at a private impound lot along the Cancún–Mérida highway.
There, “the blaze affected approximately 70 vehicles.
“Thanks to a rapid response and coordinated efforts with the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), the fire was brought under control, preventing it from spreading and mitigating risks in the area.

“No injuries were reported.”
