Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — The marine in charge of heading the C2 Command security centre of Puerto Morelos has been let go. The mayor confirmed the dismissal of Matias “N” after he was released from a recent arrest.
Puerto Morelos Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz confirmed that Matías “N”, a member of the Mexican Navy who was recently taken into custody for resisting arrest, has been released from custody and is no longer in charge of the C2 Command Centre.
Tziu Muñoz explained she felt he could not continue in a strategic position after the incident that led to his arrest. She said that according to the reports she received, Matias “N” did not have any connection to a cartel member who was arrested in the same area at the same time.
She explained that Matías “N” was in the area with his family during the police operation, carrying his licensed firearm, however, when authorities asked him to cooperate with a search, he refused which led to an argument. That ensuing argument ended in his arrest.

Tziu Muñoz said that while the participation of military personnel in municipal and state security tasks has been positive, personnel must act responsibly and follow protocol without exception.
The dismissal of Matias “N” as the C2 coordinator of Puerto Morelos is a reminder for those who hold sensitive positions, she noted, adding that they must meet a standard of conduct. She said personnel carrying weapons need to be aware of the responsibility that comes with it.
