Cancun, Q.R. — The Cancun fire department says there were no injuries in an underground parkade fire in a condominium building. The fire happened Sunday in a residential building on Bonampak Avenue.

According to Bomberos Cancun, the fire started in a transformer junction box in the building’s pumping room. Firemen arrived to a thick, smoke-filled parkade. Breathing apparatus was necessary during their search for the source of the fire.
The fire was brought under control using fire extinguishers.
In a briefing, they reported “Cancun Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a fire in the pump room of a condominium located in Superblock 3 on Bonampak Avenue.
“Upon arrival, personnel detected smoke in the parking area and entered using self-contained breathing apparatus to locate the source of the fire.
“The fire was located in a transformer junction box. Firefighters used extinguishers to control the blaze and de-energized the pump room as a precautionary measure to ensure safety during the operation.
“Fortunately, no injuries were reported.”
The Cancun fire department did not provide an official cause for the weekend fire.
