Isla Mujeres Zofemat team clears Punta Sam of 12 tons of washed up seaweed

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A massive sargassum beach clean was held by Isla Mujeres Zofemat Saturday. The group of workers removed more than 12 tons of washed up sargassum from the beaches of Punta Sam.

The team started their removal task early Saturday morning, finishing before day’s end and clearing over 12 tons of the seaweed from the mainland beach.

Zofemat (Zona Federal Marítimo Terrestre) of Isla Mujeres confirmed the 12-plus tons of seaweed removal from the municipality’s mainland beach area Saturday.

“A cleanup event was held in Punta Sam, organized by the Continental Zone Government Representation. Collaborators and coordinators from different areas participated, supporting our Zofemat Isla Mujeres warriors in removing sargassum and cleaning the beaches. As a team, we managed to remove more than 12 tons of sargassum!” they reported.
