Mahahual, Q.R. — The community of Mahahual now has a functioning Operations Committee for the La Aguada Fishermen’s Wharf. The Committee was installed Thursday the Quintana Roo Integral Port Administration Thursday.
“A historic event for Mahahual took place Thursday with the installation of the first Operations Committee for the Mahahual and La Aguada Fishermen’s Wharf,” Vagner Elbiorn Vega, the General Director of the Quintana Roo Integral Port Administration (APIQROO) reported.
He said the achievement reflects coordinated work, joint effort, and the vision of building more organized, safe, and prosperous ports for everyone.
“This important advancement is the result of the incorporation of the Mahahual and La Aguada Fishing Pier into the APIQROO Concession Title, through the Fifth Addendum, which granted APIQROO the responsibility for the administration, operation, use and conservation of these port infrastructures,” he explained.
Since its integration, APIQROO has worked constantly and with commitment on the rehabilitation and maintenance of the docks, as well as on the comprehensive improvement of the infrastructure.
Actions have been implemented for organization, regulation and permanent supervision, including strengthening security with video surveillance systems (cameras) and continuous monitoring to guarantee safer, more functional facilities in better condition for users.
Vagner Elbiorn said that this institutional effort highlights the coordinated participation of the Port Captaincies of Mahahual, Xcalak and Chetumal, who, within the scope of their powers, have added technical, regulatory and operational capabilities to strengthen maritime security, the organization of port activities and the correct application of current regulations.
Their joint work with APIQROO has been fundamental in consolidating a solid and efficient inter-institutional work scheme.
He also said that the Othón P. Blanco City Council, the community that currently occupies and operates the pier, the Eleventh Naval Zone in Chetumal, the Rural Police, operators and providers of tourist services participated, and they are an essential part of this process of organization and building agreements.
Their presence and collaboration strengthen shared decision-making and the commitment to move towards a more organized, fair and functional use of port space.
The establishment of this first Committee represents a major step towards shared prosperity, joining efforts to boost the economic and social development of the region.
The head of APIQROO emphasized that they will continue working with commitment, close collaboration, and results, consolidating ports that promote the development of Quintana Roo.
