Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Out of seven municipalities monitored for sargassum by the Mexican Secretary of the Navy (Semar), four are reporting very low levels of seaweed. Semar says that the municipalities of Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Solidaridad (Playa del Carmen / Puerto Morelos) and Tulum are experiencing near-normal beaches.
The agency says that Isla Mujeres has seven out of seven of their beaches clean, while Puerto Morelos has four out of six beaches without seaweed. In Solidaridad, seven out of eight of Playa del Carmen beaches are sargassum-free, while Tulum has five out of seven.
Semar also says that the other three municipalities, the municipality of Benito Juárez (Cancun), Cozumel and Othón P. Blanco (Chetumal), have only a moderate presence of seaweed.
