Cancun, Q.R. — A former Cancun police officer is waiting sentencing for his role in the abduction of two people from a Cancun nightclub. Authorities say Jorge Luis Fonseca, a former ministerial police officer, was found guilty Saturday.

He was charged with the disappearance of Diana García Rivera and Jorge Armando Kiau, both in their early 20s. The pair were last seen inside a nightclub on Nichupté Avenue on February 22, 2020.
According to reports, an armed group stormed the nightclub that night and targeted both of them. They were forcefully removed from the club and never heard from again.
To date, two former police officers have been arrested in relation to the case. One is Jorge Luis Fonseca, who was found hiding from authorities in Tuxtla Gutiérrez in 2024 and arrested.
The name the second former police officer is unknown.
Jorge Luis Fonseca is set for sentencing June 10, 2026. He has only been charged with his part in their disappearance since the bodies of Diana García Rivera and Jorge Armando Kiau have never been found.
