Chetumal, Q.R. — A man accused of killing two cats by feeding them laced food has been arrested by municipal officers. On Thursday, police said Ángel “N” was arrested on a warrant in the death of the two animals.
According to the State Attorney General (FGE), the complaint that lead to his arrest was filed by authorities of the Othón P. Blanco City Council.
According to the FGE, Investigative Police executed an arrest warrant against Ángel “N” for his probable participation in acts possibly constituting the crime against the environment and fauna in the form of animal abuse.
“According to the investigations, the events occurred on July 21 of this year at a residence on Chun-Ya Street in the Payo Obispo subdivision, where the accused possibly placed on the sidewalk a container with food waste that contained zinc phosphide, a highly toxic substance used as rat poison,” they said.
According to the complant, two cats ingested the contaminated food and were found dead. After the incident was reported, municipal health personnel went to the site to secure the felines’ bodies.
Based on the evidence gathered, the FGE requested and obtained the corresponding arrest warrant, which was executed by members of the Investigative Police.
Ángel “N” is currently facing charges of animal abuse.
