Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun Transit officers arrested a city combi driver after he offered a bribe in exchange for no traffic ticket. The incident happened Friday during a stop in SM 60 when the driver was seen running a red light.
According to Cancun Police, 50 year old Felipe de Jesús “N” was taken into custody for offering Transit officers cash to avoid a ticket. Police say he is facing charges.
In a statement, Policia Cancun confirmed a public transport driver had been arrested after attempting to bribe traffic officers.
“Officers from the Traffic Department arrested a male subject for his alleged involvement in acts constituting the crime of bribery; he had offered cash to the officers to avoid a traffic violation citation in Supermanzana 60.
“The incident occurred when officers spotted a public transport vehicle featuring green stripes—bearing fleet number TTE-891—whose driver had failed to stop for a red traffic light.
“After signaling the vehicle to stop and informing the driver of the violation, the driver offered cash to the officers in an attempt to avoid the issuance of the corresponding citation.
“Following these events, the officers arrested 50-year-old Felipe de Jesús “N,” who was placed at the disposal of the competent authorities for appropriate legal proceedings.”
