Lázaro Cárdenas, Q.R. — A Lázaro Cárdenas resident was killed Thursday night while riding his bicycle on the federal highway. Don Olegario, a nursery worker, was killed outside the community of El Ideal in a hit and run.

The accident was reported shortly before 10:00 p.m. by motorists who saw the man laying off the road. His body was found next to his bicycle less than a kilometer from the town of 800 where he lived.
There are reports that a truck is responsible for the fatal hit and run that killed him. There are also reports that help was slow to arrive since that area lacks basic emergency services.
An ambulance from the town of Kantunilkín, nearly 30 kilometers away, finally arrived. Paramedics confirmed that the bicyclist was dead.
According to Renán Canché, the community’s sub-delegate, the federal highway that runs through that area is narrow and lacks shoulders. He said there is no safety margin for pedestrians.
