Authorities announce arrest of stepfather suspect in babysitting death of young child

Cancun, Q.R. — The main suspect in the murder of a young child under the age of two has been arrested in Cancun. Local authorities made the arrest after the child was found unconscious in a private home Saturday night.

Police were sent to the Cancun home Saturday night after paramedics confirmed the child was dead. July 11, 2026.

The child, reported to be a boy of 1 year and 8 months, was found unconscious with multiple injuries and apparent signs of asphyxiation. His stepfather, the main suspect, was arrested from the home in SM 74 following the Saturday incident.

“The FGE of Quintana Roo announces the arrest of an individual identified as Misael “N” for his alleged involvement in the homicide of a one-year-eight-month-old victim which occurred on July 11,” the FGE said in a Sunday statement.

“The events under investigation took place in Supermanzana 74. The State Attorney General’s Office is continuing with investigative proceedings to fully clarify the facts. The public will be informed in a timely manner as the investigation progresses and the results of the statutory autopsy become available.”

Police reports indicate that the boy was in the man’s care while his mother was at work. When she returned home Saturday night, the woman found her child unconscious on his bed and called 9-1-1.

Responding paramedics pronounced the child dead inside the home.
