Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Anti-sargassum barriers have arrived for Playa del Carmen use. On Friday, a shipment of the barriers were unloaded from trucks by navy personnel who are in charge of installing them.
The 2.5 kilometers of sargassum barriers are scheduled to begin installation next week, along with the arrival of two sargassum collection vessels. Due to current windy weather conditions, staff from the Directorate of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat) confirmed that it is not possible to install the barriers yet.
The anti-sargassum equipment will be stored at the Ultramar pier at the end of Constituyentes Avenue in Playa del Carmen. Sargassum season officially begins around the 23rd of March.
