Riviera Maya, Q.R. — President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum says she will analyze extending the Maya Train to Progreso, Yucatan and integrating freight with passenger. This, after a weekend work meeting with local officials.
On Saturday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador toured the region with Claudia Sheinbaum, Yucatán Governor Mauricio Vila, Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama and the Secretary of National Defense, Luis Crescencio.
Her comments were made after visiting Mérida. Sheinbaum says during her six-year term, she will analyze making the passenger train compatible with the freight train while hinting on the possibility of extending the route to Puerto Progreso, Yucatán.
The weekend Yucatan Peninsula tour was her third in the company of López Obrador. Sheinbaum described the recent trip as “extremely interesting” regarding the operations of Tren Maya and its possible expansion.
The group were on tour to inaugurate the new archaeological zone of Edzná, in Campeche as well as meet with Yucatán and Quintana Roo governors.
