Cozumel, Q.R. — A new head for the Centro de Reinserción Social de Cozumel (Cereso) prison has been assigned. The new prison head replaced the former director who was fired after a recent inspection revealed dozens of prisoner privileges.
Jetzael Elena Martínez Cisneros is the new head of the Cozumel Social Reinsertion Center (Cereso), replacing Eva Mariela Juárez Marquina, who served as Director since 2021.
Earlier this month, the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) carried out an inspection inside the Cozumel Penitentiary Center. During the operation, hundreds of items considered contraband were seized from prisoners and removed from the facility.

During the inspection, items seized ranged from two 11-foot refrigerators to cigarettes, jewelry, music, a television, electronics, grills, a microwave oven, cell phones, tools, sex toys, cologne, a toy gun and drugs.
