Akumal, Q.R. — Agents of the Quintana Roo Tulum Police and the National Guard proceeded to shut down another illegal gathering. This latest bust happened inside a cave in Akumal. Authorities responding to an anonymous complaint found a group of partygoers inside the establishment shortly after midnight Saturday.
The party was being held inside a cavern at the Eco Rancho Mayamar, where the health standards for prevention due to covid-19 were not respected.
Police requested the support of Civil Protection and Tulum city inspectors as well as the Directorate of Ecology and Environment and Cofepris health officials, all of whom proceeded to evacuate the cavern and place closing seals along its entrance.
It is the third illegal gathering Tulum officials have dealt with in the recent days as the state of Quintana Roo continues in an orange epidemiological light after recording increases in covid infections. Last week, governor Carlos Joaquin warned that the state was closer to returning to red than it was yellow.
