Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Isla Mujeres has been awarded Best Tourist Destination of the Year for 2025. Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde accepted the award Saturday during the 11th edition of the Valores Award.

The municipality of Isla Mujeres was awarded in the category of “Best Tourist Destination of the Year,” an award received by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde.
The distinction highlights the work promoted by Atenea Gómez’s administration to strengthen Isla Mujeres’ tourism competitiveness through actions that consolidate an organized, safe destination with quality infrastructure.
“Isla Mujeres is not just another tourist destination in the Mexican Caribbean. It is living proof that transformation is not a political slogan, but a tangible reality that changes lives and improves communities,” the mayor emphasized.
“What shines today is not just the turquoise sea or the white sand, it is the people of Isla Mujeres, their warmth, their generosity, their sense of community,” she added.

During her administration, the Malecón Caribe (Caribbean Boardwalk) has been rehabilitated, the Punta Sur Sculpture Corridor has been renovated and Playa Norte (North Beach) and Playa Centro (Central Beach) have been consolidated as some of the best in the world.
Furthermore, ongoing cleaning and maintenance efforts have been strengthened, ensuring certified beaches in optimal condition for island families and visitors.
The Valores Award annually recognizes individuals, institutions and municipalities that stand out for their commitment and excellence in public service, government administration and social and economic development.
In October, Isla Mujeres Tourism reported that the island was experiencing a “good” influx of visitors.

Hernán Magaña Vargas, the General Director of Isla Mujeres Tourism and Economic Development, said at the time that unlike other destinations in Quintana Roo, Isla Mujeres has a good influx of visitors and was “full of tourists”.
