Chetumal, Q.R. — An investigation has begun into the possibility of an ongoing human trafficking ring in the south of the state. Cristina Torres Gómez, the Secretary of Government, reports that the investigation began after authorities located hundreds of undocumented migrants in the south of the state.
She made the report on the day after the illegal migrants were transferred to the Chetumal airport. From there, they were sent to Mexico City where they were able to catch international flights back to their country of origin.
This week, 173 people were found traveling inside two buses in the south of Quintana Roo. The bus was pulled over for being over capacity. An inspection revealed the illegal migrants who were allegedly traveling from Chiapas to the city of Cancun.
The following day, more than 200 more were discovered in two houses in two different towns in the south of the state. Three men have been arrested.
