Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — The ongoing discovery of bodies being dumped around the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto has authorities on high alert. Security operations have been reinforced in the municipality due to the increase in executions related to organized crime.
Colonel Narciso Valadez Nájera, Commander of the Seventh Motorized Cavalry Regiment of the XXXIV Military Zone, says bodies are appearing more frequently around the municipality due to its location.
Valadez Nájera explained that there are four main highways that connect the rest of the state with the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto. The bodies being found are often the product of events from other parts of the state.
He said that Felipe Carrillo Puerto has become a “red flag” since the municipality is a crossing point not only for motorists, but also for criminals who have established activity in the state.
He reported that the bodies being discovered originate from places such as Tulum, where they are abducted then transferred to Felipe Carrillo Puerto where they are murdered and left.
After joint investigative work with the State Attorney General’s Office and other related authorities, Valadez Nájera says they have learned that Felipe Carrillo Puerto has become a dumping ground of hit men who operate in neighboring municipalities, but mainly Tulum.
In the last days of August, several bodies were found around the municipality. In mid-August, the town began with the installation of public security cameras in response to the increase in crime.
