Cozumel, Q.R. — A young Cozumel man has been charged with the strangulation death of a woman he picked up at an island bar. Victor Hugo “N” was arrested hours after the naked body of a woman he allegedly had relations with was found on the side of a Cozumel highway last week.
The man alleged responsible, now identified as Victor Hugo “N”, was picked up by island officers after they located her stolen vehicle outside a Cozumel bar on the night of December 24.
Local authorities say he has been charged in her death. According to police, the woman was killed on the morning of December 21 and, according to an autopsy, died by strangulation. Her naked body was found by a bicyclist on December 23 dumped in a green area.
The accused is also facing charges of vehicle theft. After her murder, he drove her car, which was used to locate him on the night of his arrest. In a statement, authorities say Victor Hugo “N” is facing femicide charges “due to his alleged involvement in events possibly constituting the crime of femicide.”
According to the State Attorney General “the events for which he was charged occurred in the early morning of December 21 of this year. This is the person identified as Victor Hugo “N”, who allegedly had a relationship with the victim he met in a bar, whose lifeless body was found on December 23 in a green area, determining the cause of death as asphyxiation by strangulation,” the agency reported.
“Initial investigations indicate that the victim, accompanied by a friend, arrived at a bar where she started talking with the now-accused man and a woman who was with him. Some time later, the friend left the place.
“On December 24, elements of the Investigative Police arrested Víctor Hugo “N” for the crime of drug dealing. At the time of his arrest, he was driving the car owned by the victim. During a search of his home, they found clothing and other objects belonging to her, so they served an arrest warrant on him for alleged femicide.”
