José María Morelos, Q. R. — Thick black smoke was captured in photos Tuesday coming from a recycling centre in the town of Dziuché. The massive plume of smoke was seen for kilometers after the town’s recycling centre caught fire.
Area residents who saw the Tuesday afternoon smoke were quick to notify authorities since the fire happened a block away from a new gas station that was opened at the end of December. Area residents seeing the black smoke initially believed it was the gas station.
However, elements of the José María Morelos fire department, which is located more than 18 kilometers away, arrived at the recycling centre shortly after 2:00 p.m. and worked to extinguish the flames.
So far no injuries have been reported, only material damage to the recycling centre.
According to information released by the Dziuché mayor’s office, the fire was due to the nearby burning of garbage that became out of control.
