8 more arrested believed related to Isla Mujeres police murder

Cancun, Q.R. — Eight more people have been arrested for their likely involvement in the Tuesday morning murder of an Isla Mujeres police commander in Cancun.

According to Secretaría Estatal de Seguridad Pública, Quintana Roo, a total of 11 people have been taken into custody for the recent murder of the Isla Mujeres police commander.

The quick response in the arrests were in part due to security cameras placed around the city. Shortly after the shooting, which happened outside the Ultramar ferry crossing at Puerto Juárez, police tracked down and arrested three men.

Since then, police have arrested eight others believed involved in the shooting. They were arrested for crimes against health but are believed related to the murder of former Isla Mujeres commander Sergio Leyva Córdoba.

Those arrested are Jesus N, Juan Pablo N, Charly de Jesus N, Andrés N, Luis Ángel N, José Alberto N, Jessica N and Marco Antonio N. All were taken into custody in Region 248 of Cancun for posession of 72 bags of marijuana.

The initial three arrested, Rogelio N, Israel N and Angel David N, remain at the disposal of the State Attorney General’s Office as probable perpetrators of the events, as well as the white Avenger they used to try to flee along with two firearms.
