Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A 22 year old man died in hospital Thursday morning after a single vehicle island accident. The young driver of a motorcycle that skidded into a pole was transferred to hospital from the scene.
The accident happened shortly after 11:00 p.m. on the Rueda Medina Sur boardwalk of the island.
Police security cameras captured the motorcycle as the driver sped passed two other motorcycles, losing control against a sidewalk and skidding.
Both men on the bike fell to the pavement. The driver is seen slamming into the base of a metal pole while the motorcycle continued ahead. Neither appeared to be wearing helmets.
Motorists passing the area stopped to help both of the men involved in the accident. The passenger of the motorcycle was able to get up from the scene.
He was transferred to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, however, 22 year old motorcycle driver Juan “N” died early Thursday morning in hospital.
