Young boy drowns in Isla Mujeres beach club pool during Cancun catamaran day trip

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A young boy drowned in a beach club swimming pool on Isla Mujeres during a Cancun catamaran day trip stopover. The boy headed straight for the pool and was found unconsciousness in the water Saturday afternoon.

On-duty lifeguards performed CPR, however, the boy did not respond.

The incident happened during a catamaran day trip from Cancun. Approximately half way through the trip, the catamaran stopped at the Isla Mujeres beach club for lunch.

The tour group on board the catamaran docked at the beach club around 4:00 p.m. to eat. When they entered the beach club, the boy went into the beach club’s seaside pool.

Within a few minutes, other people at the pool noticed the boy was unconsciouness in the water and alerted beach club staff.

Lifeguards pulled the boy from the water and began resuscitation efforts, however, he did not respond.

The beach club was evacuated when police arrived and cordoned off the area. The boy is reported to be six years old. Authorities have not confirmed his nationality.
