Wood cutter reported lost in hills located after 30 hour search

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — A man who had gone missing in hills near the community of Chunhuas has been found alive. He was new to the area and located after a nearly 30-hour search by volunteers.

The Municipal Director of Civil Protection Ángel Sulub stated that after receiving the missing person report, a search was launched Sunday evening, however, he was not found. The man was reported missing Sunday when he failed to meet with his group who had set out to cut wood to build a palapa. The team resumed their search Monday morning.

On Monday afternoon, the missing man stumbled onto a ranch from where he was helped and authorities notified. When he was found, it was more than 10 kilometers from where he started walking in the jungle.

According to authorities, 55 year old Ariel “N” came to the area looking for work. He was part of a wood-cutting team for a new palapa when he became lost. Ranch owners notified authorities around 3:30 p.m. that he was with them. He was treated for fatigue and dehydration.
