Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — A highway rollover of a public transport van left one passenger dead and nearly a dozen injured. Emergency services arrived at the scene of the single vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon in response to motorist reports.

Dozens of people stopped to help after coming upon the scene of the overturned combi approximately 15 kilometers from the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto. Some of the injured were transported to hospital in private vehicles.
Emergency personnel were made aware of the accident around 1:45 p.m. An ambulance was first on scene followed by National Guard and Felipe Carrillo Puerto firemen.
According to available information, the driver of the public van swerved and hit a mound of dirt at highway speed which caused his van to flip. The combi landed on hard on its roof.

In the process, one woman was thrown from the van. She was located seveal meters from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Two minors inside the van suffered serious injuries. They were rushed to hospital in private vehicles by good semaratans who stopped to help.
Others found injured still at the scene included three women and one man. The injured were taken to local hospitals for medical attention. There was no final word on exactly how many people were hurt in the rollover since some were taken to hospital in private cars.

Civil Protection, in collaboration with the municipalities of Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Playa del Carmen, worked the scene to manage the accident and assist victims. National Guard cordoned off the area and monitored traffic, making way for emergency vehicles. An investigation continues to determine the official cause of the accident.
