Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — The Specialized Prosecutor for Combating Kidnapping and Extortion Crimes says María de Lourdes “N” has been formally charged. The woman was charged after, in 2025, she accepted a ransom deposit into her personal bank account in relation to a faux kidnapping.

According to police, on December 12, 2025, the victim received a phone call during which time a voice she believed to be her daughter’s led her to believe she had been kidnapped.
“Subsequently, a man demanded money in exchange for her supposed release,” police said in their statement.
“Faced with the threats, the victim’s husband left their home and deposited 6,000 pesos into a bank account. Later, another individual demanded an additional amount, so he made a second deposit of 6,600 pesos into an account in the name of María de Lourdes “N”.”
Police reported that investigations suggest that María de Lourdes “N” received the second deposit and provided the telephone equipment to the individuals involved in order to commit the extortion.
María de Lourdes “N” has been placed under the precautionary measure of preventive detention for a term of two years or as long as her trial lasts.
