Witnesses point to pair of armed men responsible for killing local taco seller

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — A man identified only as a local taco seller was killed in a targeted shooting Wednesday evening. The incident happened at a small outdoor market in the Jesús Martínez Ross neighborhood.

A report of a gunshots and a possible execution in the city center was made to emergency 9-1-1 around 7:30 p.m. after the young man ran inside a fruit stand to hide. According to early information, the man was targeted by gunmen as he arrived at his own taco stand to open.

While there, two armed men pulled up in a white compact car from where they got out to shoot the vendor, however, he ran. The targeted man ran into a nearby fruit shop to where he was chased and shot in the head. Red Cross paramedics confirmed the man dead at the scene.

Witnesses confirmed two armed men in a white car were responsible for the shooting. Police and military personnel scoured the area in search of the vehicle and made arrests. In a statement made late Wednesday, Ayuntamiento de Felipe Carrillo Puerto confirmed arrests but without providing details.
