Vessel of six rescued from drifting in Cozumel waters

Cozumel, Q.R. — Personnel from the Navy of Mexico report the rescue of six people found adrift in the channel between Playa del Carmen and Isla de Cozumel.

The rescue was the result of an emergency call for help after their vessel experienced mechanical failure. The Cozumel Naval Sector Command and Control Room reported receiving the call that a small recreational vessel named La Sirenita carrying six Mexican male crew members, was adrift.

According to a statement from the federal agency, personnel deployed from the Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station of Cozumel, where a short time later, they located La Sirenita and her crew.

The boat was towed to shore. All on board were reported in good health and without injuries.
