Two injured in Cozumel hotel zone gas explosion

Cozumel, Q.R. — Two people were injured when an LP gas tank exploded in a residential block in the hotel zone of Cozumel.

The injured, who have not been identified, were rushed to hospital for treatment after sustaining injuries from the exploding gas tank. According to the civil protection report, neighbors called in the explosion to emergency officials around 6:00 p.m.

The explosion, which occurred in a residence in the northern hotel zone of Cozumel, was located behind the Marina Banco Playa. Emergency officials including state police, civil protection and firemen rushed to the site.

The explosion was reportedly caused from a leak with officials confirming the explosion due to the poor condition of the cylinder.

Paramedics from a private clinic transferred the injured to a nearby hospital.
