Nuevo Xcan, Q.R. — Two people died and one left injured in an accident on the Cancun-Mérida highway between the towns of Nuevo X-Can and El Ideal.
The accident happened around 9:00 a.m. Monday. According to first reports, one of the car tires exploded causing the vehicle to leave the road where it rolled into a rocky area of brush.
Two of the three passengers from inside the Quintana Roo-plated car were found several meters from the vehicle and were reported to have died instantly. The third person was rushed to Kantunilkín Hospital.
Deputy director of the municipal police Eleazar Noh, said that the highway was closed for several hours while police investigated and an ambulance arrived to remove the injured.
