Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — One person was seriously injured Saturday night in a two vehicle accident just outside the town of Muyil. The driver of a Toyota Hiace van collided with a parked heavy-duty vehicle, leaving him trapped behind the wheel. The accident report was received around 10:00 p.m. through the 9-1-1 emergency number.

Elements from fire department along with Tulum Civil Protection of attended the scene where firemen proceeded to carry out rescue maneuvers to free the driver.
Firemen used the jaws of life to cut the van door and free the driver who became trapped after slamming into the back of a parked semi. The van’s engine was pushed into the cab leaving the driver unable to get out.
Red Cross paramedics stabilized the driver for his transfer to the Felipe Carrillo Puerto General Hospital.

Personnel from the Rural Police of the Citizen Security Secretariat and members of the National Guard also arrived at the scene. Police have not provided an official cause for the crash.
