Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — A worn out tire has been the said cause of a two vehicle accident Saturday. The tire blew while the driver was traveling on a section of Felipe Carrillo Puerto highway with two passengers.

As the driver of the car rounded a corner, his tire blew causing him to smash into an oncoming pickup. The accident happened around 11:00 a.m. approximately 15 kilometers from the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
A backseat passenger inside the car was removed unconsciousness and rushed to hospital in critical condition. The driver and front seat passenger were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. All three were removed from the vehicle after being freed using the jaws of life.

Firemen were called in as a rescue team to cut open passage for the men stuck inside the car. Members of the National Guard Highways division arrived at the scene to direct traffic and help in the rescue of the trapped men.

The driver of the pickup suffered only minor injuries and was treated by paramedics at the scene. He was not transferred to hospital.
