Three to stand trial for murder of Cozumel taxi driver

Cozumel, Q.R. — Three people have been charged with qualified homicide in the January 3 murder of a Cozumel man. The man, an island taxi driver, was gunned down inside a restaurant earlier this month.

Since the January 3 shooting, six people were arrested on drug charges related to the deadly restaurant attack. Of those, three have been officially charged in the murder of the taxi driver.

“The State Attorney General’s Office reports that, through the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating the Crime of Homicide, it presented evidence and obtained from a judge the link to trial for Luis Alfredo “N”, Francisco Javier “N” and Brandon Alexis “N”, for acts possibly constituting the crime of qualified homicide,” police reported.

The three men will stand trial “for events that occurred on January 3, 2025, in an establishment located in the Centro neighborhood. The first investigations link Luis Alfredo “N” as the alleged plaza leader of a criminal group generating violence, who would have ordered Francisco Javier “N” and Brandon Alexis “N” to deprive the victim of his life,” authorities added.
