Three crushed after slamming into back of parked industrial work truck

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — The bodies of three people were removed from the crushed cab of a pickup after it slammed into the back of a parked truck. National Guard, municipal police, firemen and medical personnel attended the deadly scene early Tuesday morning in Felipe Carrillo Puerto.

Two women and one man were killed when they slammed into the back of a parked industrial truck around 5:30 a.m. The large vehicle had broken down and was stationary partly in a highway lane and partly on the shoulder when the private vehicle hit it from behind.

Due to the speed at which the pickup was traveling, the double cab Nissan ended up crushed and embedded under the back of the heavy work truck. All three inside the private vehicle were killed.

The three dead have been identified as residents of the Mayan community of Chumpon in the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto. The accident happened on the Tres Reyes – Chumpon stretch of road earlier today.

Firemen were called in to cut the truck free for the removal of two of the bodies. One of the passengers was found outside the vehicle laying on the highway after being ejected during impact.

The driver of the industrial truck was in the undercarriage trying to determine his mechanical failure when his vehicle was hit. He sustained injuries from the impact and was transported to the Felipe Carrillo Puerto General Hospital.

A section of the highway was cordoned off by authorities. Investigative police officers and forensic experts arrived after daybreak to begin the corresponding investigations. The bodies were recovered for transport to the forensic medical service facilities.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into who was at fault.
