Cancun, Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Taxi fares across the state of Quintana Roo are set to increase for mid-March reports the Instituto de Movilidad en Quintana Roo.
Jorge Pérez Pérez, head of the Institute of Mobility in Quintana Roo made the announcement after a meeting with leaders of the state’s 17 taxi drivers’ unions that belong to Frente Único de los Trabajadores del Volante.
“It was a very productive meeting and we analyzed how the Law of Rights is and I have some proposals that I will send to the Ministry of Finance that will pass through the State Congress. It is about some adjustments that benefit everyone,” he noted.
Pérez says the increase in the taxi fare will take effect no later than March 15 throughout the state, adding that by the end of this month, adjustments will likely be made to the Rights Act to reduce the cost of some concessions.
The official explained that there are other items such as certifications and administrative issues that seem to be above what the taxi drivers should pay.
He explained that although they have a date set for the increase, they are still working out a percentage since there are 13,000 routes that have to be taken into account before making the decision which will include performance per kilometer, fuel, distance, profitability, etc.
Jorge Pérez stressed the importance of continuing with this alliance between the Frente de los Trabajadores del Volante and el Instituto de Movilidad to work together for the benefit of the community and to provide a higher quality service with safer vehicles.
