Suspect in custody after being accused of intentionally setting fire to Cozumel home with four inside

Cozumel, Q.R. — A man has been arrested for allegedly setting fire to a home with four people inside. On Sunday morning, Cozumel police took the man into custody after being reported by neighbors for intentionally setting the fire.

He was captured by island authorities early Sunday after being accused of setting fire to a home on Avenida 95 Bis. Emergency personnel were sent to an address in the Chen-Tuk neighborhood where they found four people inside.

According to initial reports, the fire originated in a bedroom where a woman and four children were sleeping. Neighbors alerted authorities after noticing smoke and flames coming from a window.

Firemen were able to contain the fire and get all four out. They were treated for injuries including smoke inhalation.

The man, who is reported to be the partner of the woman, is accused of intentionally setting fire to the house. The home, where the woman lived with her four children, is owned by the woman’s father. It is not clear if the man also lived in the home.
