Chetumal, Q.R. — A group of approximately 20 special forces have been deployed in the city of Chetumal. The group arrived Monday in response to rising violent crime around the state’s capital city.
Special forces from the the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) paratrooper group arrived by air Monday as part of a security reinforcement strategy following recent violent events.
Once on the ground they began a coordinated operation with the Quintana Roo Citizen Security Secretariat, Municipal Police and National Guard based in Chetumal.
Army sources reported that a new convoy of additional personnel is expected to arrive by land Tuesday. These units will also be deployed to different areas of Chetumal.

According to the Quintana Roo Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC), the additional security is in response to Sunday’s violent incident that involved kidnappings and a shootout with police.
