Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — Signal tests have begun in a Costa Maya highway dead zone after the installation of fiber optics. Felipe Carrillo Puerto Mayor Mary Hernández says mobile signal testing has been started on the Tulum-Felipe Carrillo Puerto section of highway that is known as a phone dead zone.
Tests began a week ago after fiber optics was introduced into the area. Hernández says while the entire dead zone has not yet produced a signal, some of the areas have. Mobile connection is important and is part of the state’s projects to strengthen telecommunication, she reported.
According to the Mayor, the newly installed fiber optics will also be linked to the Maya Train, which are part of a series of new facilities in the area. The complete infrastructure will include not only fiber optics, but also poles and high-voltage cables.
Telephone coverage is expected to be fully activated in this part of the state by August, she said.
