Shootout between criminals, Cancun police leaves one dead

Cancun, Q.R. — Five people have been involved in a shootout with state police in Cancun that has left one dead and one injured officer.

On social media, the Secretario de Seguridad Pública de Quintana Roo, Jesús Alberto Capella Ibarra, reported that there was a “Confrontation in Region 201 an injured police officer, allegedly detained in a multi-homicide of recent events in Benito Juarez, seized vehicles and weapons, work with results from the Grupo de Coordinación Quintana Roo.”

The clash between police and the alleged criminals took place on Avenida Niños Héroes near the Hacienda Real del Caribe subdivision in Supermanzana 201 of Cancun. Reports say that five people in a truck began shooting at police who returned fire.

One person has been reported killed by police in the shooting with the remaining four being taken into custody, but not before one state police officer was injured.

Preliminary reports say that one of the captured, Christopher N, had an outstanding arrest warrant for homicide involving the death of seven in a Cancun home in January of this year.

The vehicle and guns used in the confrontation were seized by police.
