Several injured when passenger combi slams into back of dump truck

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — Several passengers were transferred to hospital after a public transport van slammed into the back of a dump truck. The highway accident was reported to authorities Monday afternoon approximately 15 kilometers from the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto.

It was around 2:50 p.m. when the public combi was traveling the highway and came upon the slow moving industrial vehicle who, according to reports, suddenly entered the highway from a side road.

Unable to avoid the unit, the combi’s front passenger side slammed into the back of the dump truck at highway speed destroying the entire front end. The driver of the combi was one of those transferred to hospital.

One of his passengers was riding in the front seat at the time of the crash. Firemen were requested at the scene to cut away twisted metal so paramedics could remove them from the unit.

Three men from inside the combi were treated on site for minor injuries, while two women from inside the combi were transferred to Felipe Carrillo Puerto Hospital.

National Guard were on scene to secure the area while tow trucks removed the vehicles involved. There was no word on possible charges.
