Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A semi trailer traveling along a Playa del Carmen roadway overturned after the driver of the unit allegedly fell asleep at the wheel.
The accident was recorded only a few meters from the federal inspection booth at the entrance of Playa del Carmen near Xcaret when driver, Juan N, lost control of the semi. The large unit was traveling down the highway when it swerved and destabilized.
The trailer hit the guard rail before Punta Venado and eventually overturned, landing in the brush along the highway. Federal Police were first on scene followed by paramedics who tended to the sole occupant of the unit reporting that although he was without serious injuries, he did smell of alcohol.
The front of the unit was damaged, while the cargo box remained in tact. There was no word on what he was hauling.
Two days ago, another semi tractor trailer driver crashed his unit into highway bush outside Puerto Morelos after also allegedly falling asleep at the wheel.
