Semi jackknifes closing Playa del Carmen highway

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Slick roadways due to rain is being blamed for a semi that left the highway outside Playa del Carmen Tuesday.

The semi, which was carrying two large metal towers, jackknifed itself off the highway, landing nose-first into the ditch along the federal 307 highway of the Puerto Morelos-Playa del Carmen stretch.

More than a kilometer of backed-up traffic resulted from the semi having blocked both lanes of the highway.

It took approximately two hours for personnel to remove the large semi and its load from the ditch. There were no reports of injuries.
