Cancun, Q.R. — After being closed for a few years, the mayor of Cancun has said that the property of Malecón Tajamar will be reopened to the public.
The municipal president of Benito Juárez, Mara Lezama, made the announcement on her social media account saying that as of February 19, access to Malecón Tajamar will be reopened for the enjoyment of everyone.
“Open again #MalecónTajamar, this February 19 everyone can travel #CancúnTierraDeTodos”, she announced on two social media accounts.
The mayor did not, however, specify if the opening will apply for the transit of vehicles or will only be for walking.
Malecón Tajamar has been closed to vehicle access since January 2016 when 57 hectares of green area was destroyed for development purposes, which initiated a legal process by environmentalists that saw the work halted and grounds closed.
