Quintana Roo recognized as state with greatest homicide rate decrease

Cancun, Q.R. — Quintana Roo has been recognized as the state with the greatest decrease in homicides for the month of May.

According to statistics from the Secretariado Ejecutivo del Sistema Nacional de Seguridad Pública, the state recorded a decrease of 58.5 percent for the month of May compared to the month of April. Several other states also reported a significant decrease in their homicide rates including Baja California Sur, Yucatán and Sonora, where decreases were recorded at 50, 33.3 and 26.8 percent, respectively.

However, for the month of May, states considered to have rates of homicides include the State of Mexico with 328 cases, Baja California with 288, Jalisco with 284 reported cases of homicides, Chihuahua with 278, Guanajuato reported 256, Veracruz, 231, Michoacán, 244, Mexico City, 238 and Guerrero with 220.

One of the recent preventative measures put in place to combat crime and lower homicide figures was the creation of the National Guard, made up of police and military, which has already begun to disperse throughout various parts of the country.
