Puerto Aventuras suspect served warrant on Bacalar bus for death of girlfriend he set on fire

Bacalar, Q.R. — A suspect wanted in the burning death of a woman has been captured in Bacalar. On Wednesday, the State Attorney General’s Office reported on the capture of José “N” from on board a bus.

According to the FGE, José “N was on board a bus heading to Villahermosa, Tabasco at the time of his arrest. José “N” was taken into police custody, accused of allegedly dousing a woman, his girlfriend, in gasoline before setting her on fire.

The incident happened on the night of September 8 after a heated argument. The 38-year-old woman died in Playa del Carmen hospital September 12 after being admitted with third degree burns to more than 70 percent of her body.

José “N” was picked up on an arrest warrant. According to the FGE statement, “the events for which the accused is accused occurred on September 8 of the current year when José “N” left the house in his truck and returned with a can of gasoline with which he sprayed the woman and set on fire and immediately fled the scene.”

They added that “after three days of agony, the victim lost her life.” José “N” is reported to have been the boyfriend of Jessica “N”, the woman he sprayed with gas and lit on fire.

Police began a search for the man and his vehicle, which they located parked outside a small shopping plaza of Puerto Aventuras the following day. It was not until Wednesday that he was located and arrested.
