Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — Work on the road that will provide direct beach access for residents of Felipe Carrillo Puerto is advancing. Work on the the first section of road that will lead to Puerta al Mar at Vigía Chico is days away from compacting.
Military engineers from the Secretariat of National Defense are in charge of the project which will include a 55 kilometer long road. The first 22 kilometers of that road will be compacted and paved, while the remaining 33 kilometers will only be compacted.
The latter portion of the road is within the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, so paving will not be done. However, once complete, the road will provide direct beach access to municipal residents as well as visitors to the Mayan zone.
In March of this year, the Governor announced the project was in motion to provide residents of Felipe Carrillo Puerto with public beach access. Work on the road officially started at the end of August.
