Puerta al Mar shut while workers complete municipal project

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q. R. — The municipality’s new Puerta al Mar and Vigia Chico pier are temporarily closed. The area is undergoing a completion phase that will include the addition of sidewalks among other infrastructure.

The area was closed September 6 and will remain off limits until the work is finished November 11. The temporary closure includes access to Puerta al Mar, the Vigía Chico pier and the artisanal road.

Governor Mara Lezama says traffic will not be permitted in any of these areas during this period. “We request the public’s understanding and cooperation,” she said.

Authorities reported that the closure is temporary and that once complete, visitors will be able to enjoy a renovated, dignified and safe place for family recreation. The Puerta al Mar is a Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) project started in 2023 and slated for completion for November 11, 2025.
