Public combi services temporarily halted for Cozumel due to low passenger demand

Cozumel, Q.R. — Due to a significant decrease in demand, Cozumel’s main public transport Uniper, will stop operating as of July 10.

The director of Municipal Transportation, Marco Antonio González Anguas, reported that company executives of Uniper (Unión de Permisionarios) officially announced the withdrawal of their units from island routes, halting operations from July 10 until further notice.

The company are within their rights to suspend activities under the Transportation Regulations of the Municipality of Cozumel, in the event of a contingency.

It was a week ago that the public transport company, along with island taxis, returned to providing transportation services, however, passenger volume has remained low, and in some instances, nil. González Anguas says it is for this reason the company has temporarily halted its public services.
