Police continue surveillance along troubled Cancun beaches

Cancun, Q.R. — Police are reinforcing security efforts along Cancun Hotel Zone beaches to ensure recovered beach areas stay recovered. The Quintana Roo de Benito Juárez Police announced that as part of the permanent operation “Playa Segura”, they will continue to work on strengthening beach surveillance throughout the summer season.

The agency said that Tourist Police also carry out surveillance operations in the beach area, thus preventing the commission of illicit acts in public beach areas.

FGE head Óscar Montes de Oca Rosale, was part of the surveillance team that walked Playa Tortugas earlier this week, looking to see “that illegal activities are not committed on the beaches of the destination.”

Playa Tortugas in the Cancun Hotel Zone is one of the beaches that has seen criminal activity this year with at least two shootings and one seizure and demolition of illegal beach structures that were being used for drug-related activity.

Playa Delfines in the far northern end of the Cancun Hotel Zone has also experienced criminal activity this year, resulting in several visits from police who have seized and demolished illegal structures used for illegal activities.
