Cancun police arrest 3 in daytime shooting that killed two on Playa Tortugas

Cancun, Q.R. — Three men have been arrested in the daytime shooting death of two people on a Cancun beach Monday. Police in Cancun have detained three believed responsible for the shooting death of one man on the beach. The second death, that of a woman, was recorded shortly after she was admitted to hospital.

On Monday, security footage shows the trio arriving in a taxi at Cancun’s popular Playa Tortugas in the Cancun Hotel Zone. The trio enter the beach area and begin shooting, eventually hitting their target, a beach restaurant waiter, before fleeing.

The trio are then caught again on surveillance camera fleeing the parking lot on foot. The 3:00 p.m. shooting was called in to Emergency 911 by other beachgoers. Responding police and paramedics arrived and found one man deceased in the sand and a young woman, who had been shot in the head.

The woman was rushed to the General Hospital of Cancun in an ambulance where she died shortly after being admitted.

Within hours of a search operation, all three were located and arrested. One of the men detained, 26-year-old Miguel N, was located on Playa Langosta, also in the Cancun Hotel Zone. He was found with the loaded weapon believed used in the shooting. Two other men, believed to be his accomplices, were also taken into custody.

The identify of the victims has not been released.
